Introduction

We are a community (or “sangha”) of individuals in Salisbury Maryland from all walks of life that meet weekly for meditation, mutual support, and Buddhist studies. We aim to create a warm and supportive environment where the non-dogmatic pursuit of truth and meaning can lead to greater wisdom and compassion in all who seek it. We are not rigidly bound to any particular Buddhist tradition, but instead draw inspiration from them all (especially the teachings of Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh). We welcome people of all faiths, or lack thereof.

Study and Practice
Our community recognizes the value of both study and practice. In the West, most people are not familiar with even the most basic principles of Buddhism or other eastern traditions. Therefore, we regularly include recorded dharma talks, relevant  DVDs, and discussions of popular Buddhist books in our weekly Monday meetings. The core principles we embrace include the 4 Noble Truths, the 8-Fold Path, and the 14 Mindfulness Trainings.

Yet although study has its place, our tradition emphasizes practice above all  else. Our practice includes seated meditation, walking meditation, and mindfulness. As these practices yield such positive benefits on ones mental and physical health, we encourage everyone to carry them into their everyday life.

Begining October 8, 2012, we will be reading the book:
"No Death, No Fear"  by Thich Nhat Hanh.
We have just completed reading "Taking the Leap" by Pema Chodron which truly inspired us in our practice.

While readings are usually done in advance it is possible to contribute to the discussion even if you have not done the reading. Please free free to join us regardless.

All meetings are open to the public and FREE of charge. Please feel free to join
us. A small Dana  (donation) is always welcome but not required. On second Mondays the dana will be for our Dharma teacher to assit in expenses for travel.
